Putting yourself at the bottom of your to-do list? This trick will change everything.

This is what no-one tells you about self-care, and it makes all the difference.

When we are stressed it seems counter-intuitive to take time out of our busy day for self-care. But the reality is that when we don’t take care of ourselves, we get LESS done. So, if you want to be more productive AND feel less stressed, taking time out for self-care is actually the BEST way to get things done.

So how do we do it?

It’s pretty common to see those lists of self-care activities, but choosing one and following through can feel forced and artificial. The key to self-care that truly makes you more productive is to choose the actions that are personal to you…using history as your guide, you can learn about what makes YOU tick, what energizes YOU, and what gives you the best boost.

Let’s figure out YOUR self-care

The best self-care for productivity are the actions that make you feel healthy, alive, or fulfilled after you’ve done them. So, as we consider revolutionizing our approach to self-care, I’d like you to think of some things that you do to feel healthy, alive, or fulfilled. Grab a pen and paper and take a few moments right now to work out what makes you feel good.

  1. Write down and respond to the following prompt:

Things make me feel healthy, alive, and fulfilled are…

    I feel most energized when…

  2. Go back over what you wrote and circle words or phrases that stand out to you.

  3. Look at your weekly schedule. Is there a space for one of these things once a week? Start there. Book it in as though it were a mandatory business meeting. '

  4. Want accountability to follow through? Post in our community: “I am committing to do ______ as my energy boosting self-care this week, and I have scheduled it on for _______ date and ______ time. I’ll chime back in when I have done it, and let you know how it went!
